When cosmetics began to enter every home, even being sold in the markets decades ago, few of us were aware of the thousands of harmful chemicals in them. Fortunately, over the years, awareness has increased that cosmetic products are not as innocent as people think, and people are looking for cosmetics with more natural and clean ingredients.
The popularity of clean cosmetics has increased so much in recent years that even famous makeup bloggers have started to share products with clean content, even there are influencers who only talk about clean content products.
However, it is not easy to search, find and reach products with clean ingredients. First of all, they are a little more expensive than ordinary products, and they have not yet become very common, especially in our country. That being the case, a lot of clean-ingredient product enthusiasts began to explore whether at least some of the products could be made at home.
We also researched how to make natural deodorants at home for clean-ingredient cosmetics enthusiasts. Here is a great recipe for making natural deodorant at home!
Ingredients for Making Natural Deodorant:
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon of shea butter
- 1 tablespoon of beeswax
- 1.5 tablespoons of bentonite clay
- 1 tablespoon baking soda (if you are sensitive to baking soda, do not use baking soda and use an extra tablespoon of bentonite clay instead)
- 2 tablespoons of ocroot powder
- 2 drops of lemon essential oil
- 2 drops of Citronella essential oil
- 2 drops of Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) essential oil
Making Natural Deodorant
You need to start by melting the coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax in a bain-marie. For this, after filling a medium-sized pot with water and boiling the water, put the three ingredients in a heat-resistant bowl and drop them into the water. While the bowl floats over the boiling water on low heat, mix it gently and wait until the wax melts. When the wax completely melts and becomes liquid, mix the ingredients in the bowl thoroughly and make sure that they are well mixed, then remove the bowl from the hot water and leave it to rest for a minute on one side. Then add the remaining ingredients to the bowl in order according to their measurements and mix very well.
You need to find a mold where you can pour the mixture while the mixture is still a little warm and the wax is still liquid. You can use an empty deodorant container or a small silicone muffin tin for this. After pouring the liquid mixture into a mold without waiting too long and letting it cool for 3-4 hours, you now have a homemade natural deodorant. Thanks to the wax that cools and solidifies again, your deodorant will remain in a proper form without melting even in hot summer months.
You can easily use your homemade natural deodorant for about two weeks, but if you want it to last up to 3-6 months, you will need to store it in an airtight, vacuum-sealed glass jar after closing. You can take a hazelnut-sized piece from the jar with the help of a teaspoon and apply it to your armpit with your finger. It is recommended to use no less than hazelnut kernels for full protection all day long in summer.
