JN1

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the “JN.1” variant, which has emerged as a new player in the COVID-19 pandemic. The Jn.1 variant occurs as a mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This variant has marked changes in its genetic makeup. Experts noted that for risk groups such as people with chronic diseases, pregnant women and children under 2 years of age, JN1 and coronavirus, especially influenza viruses, still pose a danger in terms of hospitalization and intensive care admissions.

The rapid spread of JN.1 is probably because it has an additional mutation in the spike protein to that of the BA.2.86 variant from which it derives. It has become the dominant variant in many countries, including the US, Iceland, Portugal, Spain, India and the Netherlands. Experts say that the new variant, which has not yet been detected in Turkey, causes heart attacks and clots, and emphasize that citizens over the age of 65 should wear masks.

Is There A Cure For JN.1?

According to current knowledge, there is no cure for the JN1 variant. However, existing COVID-19 treatment modalities offer a wide range of effects against different SARS-CoV-2 variants, including the JN1 variant.

Vaccines in particular play a critical role in controlling the JN1 variant and preventing its spread. However, no treatment for this new variant has yet been identified. If you have symptoms or want to take precautions against this new variant, you can protect yourself from the JN1 variant by washing your hands frequently, staying away from sick people and wearing a mask, especially in crowded places.
